Some of my favorite weddings to shoot have little to do with the venue, color scheme, or lighting – they are the celebrations planned around the personalities of the bride & groom, rather than around tradition. When Keturah and James told me that their ceremony would be held in a downtown Seattle brewery, I knew this wedding would be high up on my list.
Their PNW wedding kicked off with a shared bachelor/bachelorette weekend in a modern, 3-story Airbnb with a rooftop view of Ballard. Local friends immediately hit it off with friends who traveled from CA and TN, in an easy way that reminds you how charming and small our world can be.
On the big day, the kind folks at Ace Hotel Seattle accommodated our every need, providing an offbeat, modern space that was every bit as memorable as Kit and James’ first look. The ceremony and reception venue, Cloudburst Brewery, was one of the more unconventional spaces I’ve seen and yet, perfectly fitting for the laidback couple. Friends and family helped themselves to secret brews poured from a telephone (quite delicious too), pizza, and polaroids, all while dancing to a playlist made up entirely of the guests’ favorite songs.
From the arcades and rooftops, to pinatas and Mad Libs, this bride and groom threw out all time-honored traditions to stay true to who they are—and perfectly combined sophistication, simplicity, quirkiness and fun in doing so. The duo adopted a new family name – the Bloods, which is totally bad ass. Thank you Kit and James for the fun hangs with you in documenting your wedding in one of my favorite cities. And a huge thank you to the talented Tiarra Sorte for shooting alongside me!
